Homestead Mourns.

Promising Young Man Dies at Camp Pike, Arkansas.

Jacob R. Moershel, son of Jacob F. Moershel, of Homestead, died this afternoon at Camp Pike, Arkansas, after a severe attack of pneumonia. Hopeful news as to his condition was received yesterday and the message announcing his death came as a great shock to the entire community. The young man had been connected with the Homestead store for a good many years and the many patrons of that place came to love and esteem him for his friendly and kind ways and cheerful disposition, and it seems very hard to realize that we are never to see his smiling face again in our midst.

Jacob R. Moershel was born at Homestead, Iowa, on May 15, 1891. His parents are Mr. Jacob F. and Mrs. Helene Moershel, of Homestead. After graduating from the Homestead school he entered the general store at that place, where he was still employed when called for the military service last July. With the community and the public he was a general favorite and it will be long years before the kindly and genial young man will have entirely faded from the minds of those who knew and loved him.
