Cedar Rapids Evening Gazette, March 16, 1887: Mrs. Rebecca Varner Kramer, wife of Lewis Kramer, died on Saturday morning, March 12, aged 77, and was buried from Mt. Zion Church, of Linn Grove on Monday, the services being conducted by Rev.B.C. Barnes, of Lisbon. She had been sick all winter, but had recovered so as to be about the house, but passed away so quietly and peacefully that the one sleeping with her was not disturbed. She was married in 1834 to Lewis Kramer, in Green County, Pennsylvania; came to Iowa in 1839 and settled on the farm in Linn township, where they have resided since. She was the mother of ten children and eight are living and were present, excepting Mrs. Garnet of Montezuma, Iowa. She became a member of the M.E. church when but fifteen years of age, and for fifty-three years she had shared with her now bereaved and lonely husband the cares and joys of their married life. Only a few remain who know what frontier life was in Linn county several years before Iowa became a state, and now there is another of the old settlers gone.
