Celebration of life service for LuEtta R. Von Ahsen, 81, Grand Island, Neb., formerly ofWilliamsburg and Marion, were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21, at Immanuel Lutheran Church near Williamsburg. She was called peacefully to her heavenly home Thursday, Feb. 16, 2012, ending her brave journey with diabetes and Alzheimer’s. She had by her side members of her loving family and the caring staff of Golden Living Center, Lake View.

The Rev. Richard Meyer officiated at the service. Organist was Joanne Huedepohl. Selections included “Just As I Am,” “Beautiful Savior” and “How Great Thou Art.”

Burial was in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. Casket bearers were John Bricker, Nicholas Colombo, Brandon White Crane, Scott Colombo, Barry Von Ahsen, Andrew Pavel and Nathan Von Ahsen.

Memorials may be made to Camp Hertko Hollow, Iowa’s Camp for Kids with Diabetes, and Golden Living Center, Lakeview Alzheimer’s Care Unit.

LuEtta Ruth Von Ahsen was born Jan. 16, 1931, near Williamsburg in York Township, Iowa County, the daughter of Fredrick and Amanda (Glandorf) Iburg. She was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church. She attended Immanuel parochial school and graduated from Williamsburg High School in 1948. She enjoyed participating in drama, choir and her church Walther League activities.

She married Wayne William Von Ahsen Sept. 4, 1949, at Immanuel Lutheran Church near Williamsburg. The couple raised seven children, farmed, worked and worshipped in York Township for 36 years before moving to Conroy until Wayne’s death in 1995.

She lived in Marion from 1996 to 2009, when she moved to Grand Island, Neb. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where she had been active in the choir, bell choir and ladies aid. She enjoyed her work throughout the years at Seven Villages Restaurant, Lutheran Interparish School, Homestead Kitchen and the Marion Maid-Rite.

She was an avid reader, loved old Western movies and enjoyed Bible study, ladies coffee and playing cards with anyone who could keep up with her. She was a giving individual who was quick to help any friend, neighbor or stranger.

Even right up to the end of her life she showed care for others with a gentle touch of her hand, great hugs, friendly smiles and a cheerful sparkle in her eyes.

Von Ahsen is survived by one son and his wife, Tom and Marilyn Von Ahsen, Wentzville, Mo.; six daughters and their husbands, Sandy and Terry Bricker, Grand Island, Neb.; Joan White Crane, Billlings, Mont.; Kathy and Jay Taylor, Mooresville, N.C.; Patti and Mike Colombo, Somers, N.Y.; Teri and Herb Skoog, Cedar Rapids, and Monika Pavel, Seward, Neb.; 16 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Alice Olson and husband Gerry, Denver, Colo., and Dorothy Freeland, Lima, Ohio.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; an infant daughter, Linda; a sister, Leona Steinke, and a brother, Harold Iburg.
