Celebration of life services were held Sunday, Feb. 6, for Monte L. Root, 68, Belle Plaine, together with his son, Matthew Eric Root, at the Belle Plaine Community Center. Monte Root died Jan. 30, 2011, at his home from melanoma cancer.

Inurnment was in the Ohio Cemetery, Ladora.

Hrabak Funeral Home, Belle Plaine, was in charge of arrangements.

Monte Lee Root was born Oct. 14, 1942, at Hartwick, the son of Charles and Gladys Warriner Root. He was a 1960 graduate of HLV High School.

He married Priscilla Wahl in November 1961 at Victor. He spent his life as a farmer and moved to his present home in 1961.

Root is survived by his children, Elizabeth Ann Root, Maitland, Fla.; Stephanie Jane Stock, Buckingham, and Joshua Aaron and Michelle Diane Root, Oxford; one sister, Kate Shaull, and two grandchildren, Sophia Margaret and Colin Matthew Root.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Gene Root and George Root; two sisters, Mary Beth Coffman and Janice Smith, and one son, Matthew Eric Root.
