Funeral services for Emma A. Albert, 101, Amana, were held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 17, at the Middle Amana Community Church. She died Monday, Feb. 14, 2011, at Colonial Manor of Amana.

Church elder Harold Pitz officiated at the service.

Burial was in the Amana Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Amana Church Society.

Emma Alice Albert was born March 16, 1909, in Amana, the daughter of Charles and Elise Clemens Oesterle. She attended school in Amana.

She married Paul Albert Dec. 5, 1929. In addition to being a homemaker, she worked in the Amana communal kitchens and the Sandstone Winery.

Following the loss of her husband and daughter early in their lives, she raised her grandchildren. She especially loved caring for them and her great-grandchildren.

She enjoying canning, crocheting and knitting but her happiest moments were those spent in her garden.

She had a strong faith and was an active member of the Amana Church Society. She also belonged to the Amana Heritage Society.

Albert is survived by a son-in-law and his wife, Lester and Sue Davis, Johnston; five grandchildren and their spouses, Kim Davis, Sioux City; Tracy Davis and Carmen Kealy, Coralville; Terry and Brenda Davis, Oxford; Julie Kotz, Des Moines, and Jon Albert, Cedar Rapids; six great-grandchildren and their spouses, Ryan and Kristy Stille and Nick and Katie Stille, all Omaha, Neb.; Katie Stille and Conor Davis, both Sioux City, and Logan Davis and Emma Davis, both Oxford.

She was preceded in death by her husband, in 1963; her parents; one son, Carl Albert; one daughter, Carolyn Davis, and two sisters, Emily Roemig and Elsie Mattes.
