OBITUARY
Mrs. Mary Evans was born in Wayland, Henry County, Iowa, June 29, 1858, and died in Williamsburg, Iowa, May 16th, aged 64 years, 10 months and 17 days.
She came to Williamsburg with her widowed mother and brothers and sisters when quite a small girl. She was married to John R. Evans Nov. 5th 1879. To this union were born five children: Alfred, who died at the age of seven years; Edwin, who died at the age of four years; and Earle, Leighton, and Milton, who have grown up to young manhood in Williamsburg and survive to mourn the loss now of both father and mother, the father 'Having died eight, years ago.
Mr. and Mrs. Evans came to our church from the Welsh Congregational Church in 1897, in which they both remained faithful members until called away. Mrs. Evans was one of our most faithful attendants at all of the regular church services and prayer meetings until her health began to fail. Since then she has been less and less frequently in our church service until she bade us all a final farewell. While our departed sister was one of the most quiet of women, yet we always miss those who have regularly supported the services with their presence.
Mrs. Evans was highly respected by all who knew her, was a good neighbor, a trusting Christian, and lived for -her boys, planning for their future and looking forward to the day when they would all be settled in some profitable business. The boys knew her love and solicitude in their behalf; but will more keenly appreciate their loss as the days pass. The entire community extend their hearty sympathy to these sorrowing sons, whose home is entirely broken.
The funeral was conducted from the residence at 2:00 P. M. Sunday by the Rev. Thomas E. Sherman, pastor of the Presbyterian church. The sermon was preached from the text found in John 6:40.
