Graveside services for Ella Rider, 90, Marengo, were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 28, at the Marengo Cemetery. She died Saturday, Sept. 25, 2010, at Colonial Manor of Amana, following an extended illness.

The Rev. Katie Dawson officiated at the service.

A memorial fund has been established.

Ella Rider was born March 19, 1920, in Lake View, the daughter of John H. and Christina Jensen Auen. She attended Sac City schools and received her GED in 1970.

She married Cecil C. Rider Dec. 19, 1947, in Walker. She was employed as a nurses’ aid for several years at the Watts Hospital, Marengo. She was a member of R.S.V.P. and received the five-year and 10-year awards.

Rider is survived by two sons and their wives, Rex and Sue and Max and Joann, all Marengo; one daughter and her husband, Irene and Joe Matthess, also Marengo; five grandchildren and their spouses, Shelley and Craig Berger, Conroy; Christopher and Amy Rider, Urbana; Tracee Rider, Victor; JR and Stacy Kahler, Marengo, and Jaime Cronbaugh, Ladora; 10 great-grandchildren, Bailey, Gage, Tanner and Eli Berger, Owen Rider, Logan Ballard, Rayce Kahler, Chandler Whitehead, Blayze Cronbaugh and Brynnlee Cronbaugh; one brother, Raymond Auen, Central City, and three sisters, Genevieve Stevens, Kristine Stevens and Nell Deason, all Cedar Rapids.

She was preceded in death by her husband, in 1957; her parents; two brothers, Henry “Hank” and Carl Auen; four sisters, Hemi “Hannah” Drury, Jennie Christensen, Anabell Preston and Jessie Ammann, and one grandson, Robert John Rider.
