Wayne W. Folkmann, age 80 of Marengo, died Saturday evening, April 24, 2010 at Colonial Manor of Amana following an extended illness. Funeral Services: 10:30 A.M. Thursday, April 29, 2010, St. John’s Lutheran Church, Marengo with Rev. Doug Morton officiating. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery, Conroy with military honors conducted by Marengo American Legion Post #76. Visitation: 4 to 7 P.M. Wednesday, April 28, 2010, at Kloster Funeral Home in Marengo. Memorials may be contributed to the Iowa Valley Auditorium Remodeling Fund.

He is survived by his wife Betty; four sons, Jeffrey L. and wife Nancy of Denver, Iowa, Dale W. and wife Sandra of Marengo, Bruce A. and wife Sharon of San Diego, CA and Daren D. and wife Marlyce of Marengo; and nine grandchildren, Aaron, Alexander, Andrew and Sarah of Denver, Amanda and Benjamin of Marengo and Angela, Douglas, and Micheal, also of Marengo. Also surviving are a brother-in-law, Merlyn Martinson of Marengo; three nieces, Cheryl (Ron) Kirkpatrick of Cedar Rapids, Lois Hinrichs (Oswald) of Amana, and Barbara Thomas (Dale) of Marion; a nephew Gary Martinson (Sheryl) of Marion; and an aunt, Geneva Von Ahsen of Williamsburg. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Sylvia Martinson.

Wayne William Folkmann was born June 25, 1929 in South Amana, Iowa, the son of Henry Frederick Folkmann and Lora Katherine (Zuber) Folkmann. He graduated from Marengo High School in 1947 and served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953, stationed in Korea. He returned to the states and married Betty Laura Roup on June 26, 1954 at the Methodist Church in North Liberty. Wayne farmed in Iowa County his entire life. He was a member of the Iowa County Farm Bureau, the Iowa County Cattlemen, and the Marengo American Legion Post #76. He also served as a board member of Farm Credit Services for 12 years. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Marengo and was a Hawkeye and Cubs fan.
