Harley Albert Cover, was born January 7, 1924, in Webster, Iowa, the son of Harley G. and Sylvia (Jordan) Cover. The family moved to a farm near Necedah, Wisconsin when he was a baby. They lived there for 11 years. In 1936, at age 12 they moved to a farm near Gibson, Iowa. Harley was in 4-H and he showed Guernsey Cows at the Keokuk County fair winning many ribbons. He graduated from Gibson High School in 1942. He married Evelyn Schaffner on July 18, 1943, at the Millersburg Methodist parsonage. He worked at the Alfred Shaull Implement Shop and drove a truck for him. He worked several years for the Iowa County road department, before moving to Cedar Rapids, in 1965. He was employed by FMC- Link Belt for 20 years before he retired. In 2000, they moved to Millersburg and on July 10, 2002, Harley went to the English Valley Care Center, where he had excellent care for seven years. He was a member of the Millersburg United Methodist Church and the FMC Retirees. He enjoyed spending time with his family and vacationing. Harley died on Wednesday, December 30, 2009, at Mercy Hospital Hospice Unit in Iowa City, at the age of 85 years. He is survived by his wife Evelyn of Millersburg; 2 children Phyllis (Ron) Kinzler of Millersburg and Gordon (Janet) Cover of Tomball, TX; six grandchildren: Shari (Joel) Schnebbe, Lonnie (Carol) Kinzler, Denny Kinzler, Neal Kinzler, Master Sargent Gregory (Lisa) Cover and John (Kelly) Cover. 14 great grandchildren; and 2 sisters: Gladys (Kenneth) Geyer of Albia and Kathryn Streigle of Arlington, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 sisters Helen Grimm and Ada Niswander. Celebration of Life Service will be held 2:30 pm on Monday, January 4, 2010, at the Millersburg United Methodist Church. Pastor Edwin Jordan will officiate, with message by Lonnie Kinzler. Burial will be in the Millersburg Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday from1:00 pm until service time at the church. A memorial fund has been established for the Mercy Hospital Hospice Unit in Iowa City or the Millersburg United Methodist Church.
