Dean Robert Woodrum was born the son of Earl Willis Woodrum and Mary Margaret Punke Woodrum on March 11, 1928 in Victor, Iowa. He was raised in Victor and Ladora and he graduated from Ladora High School with the class of 1947. He later attended Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.Dean was united in marriage to Betty Jane Bricker on April 12, 1949 at her parent’s home in Ladora. To this union two daughters were born, Deb and Dawn. The couple lived on the family farm southwest of Ladora where Dean farmed for several years. In 1967, he began working in quality control at Amana Refrigeration in Amana, Iowa until his retirement in 1983. His wife Betty passed away September 19, 1986. He was united in marriage to Lona “Bea” Franklin Klima on September 7, 1991 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The couple lived in Cedar Rapids for a short while and then moved back to the family farm near Ladora. His wife Lona “Bea” Klima Woodrum passed away on May 6, 2005. Following her death, Dean moved to Victor.
Dean was a member of the St. Bridget Catholic Church in Victor and the Knights of Columbus. He was a former member of the Ladora United Methodist Church, where he played the organ for several years. He was a very talented musician and he played the keyboard and the accordion in a band in his younger years. He was also mechanically inclined and spent hours tinkering in his shop working with solar panel chargers and making blades for wind chargers that he assembled.
Dean is survived by his daughters, Deb (Richard) Chittick of Ladora and Dawn (Mike) Smith of Victor; two step-children, Franklin (Joan) Klima of North Liberty, IA, and Cynthia Klima of Cedar Rapids, IA; four grandchildren, Brian (Heather) Chittick, Corey (Dana) Chittick, Danielle (Brett) Weisskopf, and Sarah Smith; his step grandchildren, Tanya (Duane) Hall, Bill Klima, Judy (Brett) Walk, Jamie Klima, Sarah Klima, Amanda (Marshall) Ritchie, and Eva (Chris) Lutz; his great grandchildren, Derek and Dylan Weisskopf; and his step great grandchildren, Alexis Bracey, Kati Shama, Aidan Shama, Damien Walk, James Walk, Caden Walk, Avery Lutz, Alaina Hall. Dean was preceded in death by his parents; his step-father, James Rowcliffe; his wife, Betty Bricker Woodrum; his wife, Lona “Bea” Klima Woodrum; his infant son, Steven Woodrum; and his grandson, Derek Smith.
