Elmer Martinson Stricken Sunday By Heart Attack

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Aug. 27 for C. Elmer Martinson who died Sunday evening enroute to Marengo Memorial hospital. Death was attributed to a heart attack.

Pastor Stanley Lillich officiated at the services held at 2 p.m. in First Lutheran church near Conroy. Mrs. Milford Halvorson at the organ accompanied Mrs. Lillich who provided the vocal selections. Casket bearers were Robert Martinson, Harold Martinson, Edwin Martinson, Norman Hunzelman, Ralph Martinson and Donald Martinson, all nephews of the deceased. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Carl Elmer Martinson was born on Jan. 3, 1892, the son of Knude and Ellen Larson Martinson on the parental farm west of Conroy. He was baptized and confirmed in the First Lutheran church where he maintained a lifetime membership. He received his education in High Prairie school west of Conroy.

On Sept. 13, 1916, he was united in marriage with Mathilda Rose Hunzelman. They spent their entire life on the farm where they moved at the time of their marriage. The couple had seven children. A daughter, Anna Marie, died in infancy.

He is survived by his wife; three sons, Irvin of Cedar Rapids, Merlyn of Marengo and Milford of Cedar Rapids; three daughters Mrs. Noel (Norma) Siems of Iowa City, Mrs. Dwight (Joyce) Mumm of Williamsburg, and Miss Leona Martinson of Cedar Rapids; also 18 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Frank Martinson of Marengo and Leonard Martinson of Williamsburg; two sisters; Mrs. Charlotte Drummond of Santa Barbara, Calif., and Mrs. Charles (Edvena) Hunzelman of Marengo.
