ADAM HUMMER LAID TO REST
Many Attend Services At Oxford for Pioneer Resident of County

OXFORD, Feb. 1--Funeral services for Mr. Adam Hummer aged 96, were held Thursday afternoon at the Ira Hummer home. Rev. W. Williams of the Oxford Presbyterian Church, officiating.

Mr. Hummer was born Aug 13, 1831 on a ship on the Atlantic Ocean when his parents were coming from England to make their home in America. He passed away Jan. 25, 1927. He was united in marriage in 1864 to Fredericka Mohnk who passed away a number of years ago. To this union were born six children. Albert died eight years ago. Those surviving are Vernon of Williamsburgh, Arthur of Guernsey, Iowa, Mrs Alice Hicks of Cory, Penn. and an adopted son Ira. Mr. Hummer fell and broke his hip Dec. 24 and has been bedfast since Pneumonia developed a short time ago which caused his death.

The quartet consisting of Messrs Everett York, M. Baker, Joe Crissinger and P.A. Klenk sang for the services. The remains were laid to rest in the Harrington Cemetery.

Hummer Funeral
The funeral services for Mr. Adam Hummer, whose death occurred on Monday at his home in York township, were held Thursday afternoon, conducted by Rev W.A. Williams, of the Presbyterian church in Oxford, and interment was in the Harrington cemetery. He was born at sea in 1831, of German parents. When in his teens he came to Iowa City, then the frontier of Iowa, with but two stores, and Muscatine was the chief trading point of the pioneers of Johnson county, and conducted a farm there until in 1891, when he and his wife moved to York township, Iowa county, where they purchased a fine tract of land, and on this the home was made ever since. He is survived by three sons and two daughters, all of York township.
