INFANT SON OF IRA HUMMER JR. DIES TUESDAY
First Child Born in Johnson County In 1940

Eugene Robert Hummer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ira Hummer, Jr., of York township, passed away at 6 a.m. Tuesday, February 27.

Eugene was the only child, as Mr. and Mrs. Hummer were married February 27, 1939. Mrs. Hummer was the former Dorothy Beard of Iowa City. Friends and relatives showered the Hummers with gifts at the birth of Eugene, as he was the first born in Johnson County in 1940. Lobar pneumonia was the cause of his death.

Funeral services were at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the home, conducted by Rev. Underwood of Oxford. Burial was in the Harrington cemetery.

To the parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ira Hummer, Jr., the grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ira Hummer Sr., and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Beard, the heartfelt sympathies of the entire community are extended.
