Marie C. Calihan, age 94 of Amana, died Wednesday morning, April 22, 2009 at Rose Haven Nursing Home in Marengo following an extended illness. Funeral Services: 11:00 A.M. Friday, April 24, 2009 at Hope Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids, with Pastor Dan Clark-Bridges officiating. Burial will be in the Amana Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 7 P.M. Thursday, April 23, 2009 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo and 1 hour prior to the funeral service on Friday at Hope Lutheran Church. Memorials may be contributed to Hope Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids, the Amana Heritage Society, or the Amana Community Library.

Marie is survived by her twin sister Emily Fels of Amana; and nieces and nephews, Joyce Fels of Amana, Sally Meyers, of San Angelo, TX, Jim Pohlers of Ocala, FL, Paul Pohlers of Wildwood, MO and Rev. Robert Weinmann of Seattle, WA. Also surviving are special friends John and Barbara Morrison and families. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert on May 31,1990, a sister Anna Pohlers, a brother William Weinmann and a nephew Lee Pohlers.

Marie Caroline Weinmann Calihan was born July 25, 1914 in Davenport, Iowa, the daughter of Anton Weinmann and Caroline Reihmann Weinmann. She married Robert H. Calihan on July 3, 1941 in Philadelphia, PA. Marie was a homemaker and also worked as a nanny and housekeeper in the Chicago area. When she settled in Amana, Marie served as a guide for the Amana Communal Kitchen. She enjoyed reading, singing, cooking and gardening. She was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids and the Amana Heritage Society.
