Williamsburgh Journal, Williamsburgh (Iowa Co.), Iowa, 6 Nov 1885.

OBITUARY.
DIED, at the family residence in Williamsburgh, Iowa Co., Iowa, Nov. 5th, at 1 o'clock a.m., MRS. MARGARET HUGHS; wife of MR. JOHN HUGHES, JR., aged 40 years, 4 months and 29 days.

Thus another useful life has closed serenely, after weary weeks of suffering. Mrs. Hughes has resided in this county formany years, her tender love and care has been the joy of the home, her sympathizing heart and generous hands have carried sunshine into the hearts and homes of many of the people in Marengo and Williamsburgh. Her winning disposition and generous nature won her the affections of all classes. She has left many fragrant memories that will be cherished by all her friends and acquaintances.

The approach to the end was gradual, but her faith never wavered, she fell asleep in the confident hope of a glorious immortality. She has tasted of the dark and bitter waters of the Leal, but now lives rejoicing on the other side. She has been called from a beautiful home to one of heavenly beauty and grandure, where there is no 'disease' and death and where partings are unknown.

As we stand and gaze on the stars dotting the stellar fields of azure, faith founded on reason and revelation says "we shall meet again, in that sweet summer land of the soul, that elysian clime, that lies perhaps beyond the stars' aye more, we shall clasp our friends in a joyful embrace of recognition, and in their presence and love, the same as on earth, only intensified and purified, roam the Paradistical plains, of the New Jerusalem, for ever, while the cycles of eternity shall roll.

The sympathy of the entire community is extended to the bereaved husband, family and friends, but how weak is human sympathy when hearts are torn and rent, by death's havoc, when great waves of sorrow roll in upon us, Jesus alone can comfort,

But when the Angel of shadow
Rest her feet on wave and shore,
And our eyes grow dim with watching
And our hearts faint at the oar,
Happy is he who heareth,
The signal of his release,
In the the bells of the Holy City,
The chimes of eternal peace.

The funeral services were held this afternoon at the Presbyterian church. Many friends from Marengo were in attendance and joined the host of friends in this locality in their expressions of sympathy.

Rev. Davis talked to the people in Welsh, after which Rev. Stewart delivered a most beautiful address, upon death and the triumphs, of living faith, through a risen Redeemer, after which the body was interred in the cemetery.
