Last Rites Are Held Monday For Mrs. Kurovski

Last rites for Mrs. Andrew J. (Lorraine) Kurovski, 54, rural Victor, were Monday, Oct. 31 at 10 a.m. in St. Bridget's Catholic church, Victor. Officiating were Msgr. E.C. Greer, the Rev. Thomas Keating, Dubuque, and the Rev. John J. Whalen, Davenport. Paul DeMeulenaere, a nephew, was the commentator.

Mrs. Kurovski died of extensive burns Friday, Oct. 28, 1977, at her home near Victor, when her clothing caught fire when she was burning trash about 11:30 a.m. Her husbadn, who had been in town at the time, discovered the body near the barn. The death was ruled accidental by Dr. Kitti Kalambaheti, Victor, deputy Iowa county medical examiner.

Three selections were sung for the mass by Mrs. John Cooney, "Ave Maria", "Panis Angelicus" and "The Battle Hyme of the Republic". Mrs. Lloyd Brockmeyer was the organist.

Casket bearers were her six sons, Michael, Steven, Thomas, James, Daniel and David, and her two sons-in-law, Randy Schwab and J.C. Sauer. Honorary casket bearers were L.A., Francis and Vincent DeMeulenaere, Ernest Shaull, Achiel Wauters and George Baitinger. Burial was in Calvary cemetery, Victor.

The daughter of Emil and Agnes Michalek DeMeulenaere, Lorraine Agnes Kurovski was born Oct. 9, 1923 at Victor. She spent her early years in this area, graduating in 1940 from St. John's Catholic high school, Victor. In 1944 she graduated from Mercy hospital school of nursing in Iowa City. She worked at Skiff Memorial hospital, Newton.

Aug. 17, 1946 she married Andrew J. Kurovski in St. Bridget's Catholic church, Victor. Following their marriage they lived in Bridgeport, Conn., before returning to Victor in 1947. They moved to the farm in 1952. Mrs. Kurovski was employed as a nurse in Connecticut also. She was a member of St. Bridget's church.

Survivors are her husband, six sons and six daughters, Nancy, East Lansing, Mich.; Mary Ann, Cedar Rapids; Mrs. J.C. (Irene) Sauer, Marion; Michael and Steven, Brooklyn; Kathryn, at home; Mrs. Randy (Anna) Schwab, Swisher; Thomas, serving in the marine corps; James, Daniel, David and Christine, all at home.

Also, her mother, Mrs. Agnes DeMeulenaere, Victor; two brothers, Robert DeMeulenaere, Victor; and Edward DeMeulenaere, Racine, Wis.; three sisters, Mrs. Jerry (Mary) Sindelar and Mrs. Frank (Betty) DeBrower, both Marion; and Mrs. Bud (Joan) Wahl, Jefferson; and several aunts and uncles.

She was preceded in death by her father.
