Doris F. “Dorie” Vetterick Peterson, age 92 of Marengo, died Friday morning, July 18, 2008 at the Marengo Memorial Hospital, following an extended illness. Funeral Services: 10:00 A.M. Monday, July 21, 2008, Trinity United Church of Christ, rural Marengo with Rev. Bev Thompson-Travis officiating. Burial will be at 3:00 P.M. Monday July 21, at Graceland Cemetery, Creston, Iowa. Friends may call from 3 to 6 P.M. Sunday, July 20, 2008 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be contributed to Trinity United Church of Christ, the Marengo Memorial Hospital, the American Cancer Society or Essence of Life Hospice, Amana.

Doris is survived by her son Gary Peterson and wife Joanne of Belle Plaine, IA, two grandsons, David Peterson (Amy) of Kalamazoo, MI, and Don Allen Peterson (Bronwyn) of Peyton, CO; three great-grand daughters, Emma Peterson, Dorie Peterson and Elissa Peterson; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband George E. Peterson on September 7, 1994, a brother Harry Vetterick, Jr. and two sisters, Wilma Strey and Maxine Lynn.

Doris Frances Vetterick was born March 16, 1916 in Creston, Iowa, the daughter of Harry A. and Anna E. Falcke Vetterick. She graduated from Creston High School in 1934. Following graduation, Dorie was employed as a dental receptionist in Creston. She married George Peterson on February 3, 1939 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. The couple resided in Iowa City, Iowa for 2 years, then moved to Madison, WI. Following George’s discharge from the Navy, the couple returned to Iowa City where he enrolled in the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy, and Dorie accepted a position in the Publications Office. In 1955, the couple purchased Denzler Drug in Marengo, which they operated as the Peterson Pharmacy. Dorie clerked and was bookkeeper for 30 years, retiring in 1985 when they sold the business to their son, Gary.

Doris was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, the Ladies Fellowship Organization, was past vice-president of the Marengo Jr. Federated Club and a member of the Marengo Legion Auxiliary.

Dorie enjoyed caring for her home, yard and flowers, collected antique china and glassware and loved to cook and bake. She found much joy in sharing the “goodies” with relatives, neighbors and friends. She enjoyed the Iowa Hawkeye football and basketball seasons, and dearly loved her family and friends
