Marilyn Darlene Ruegsegger Kirkpatrick was born on May 7, 1926 in Greene Township, near North English, IA, the daughter of Arthur Christian and Lovina Dorthy Groff Ruegsegger. Marilyn lived in the Wellman and Washington communities and graduated from Washington High School. She worked 6 years for Livingston & Day in Washington. Marilyn was united in marriage to Orson Keith Kirkpatrick on September 10, 1949, in the United Methodist Church in Batavia, Ia. They moved to North English in 1949 where she worked several years in the utility office. She was co-owner and manager of Kirkpatrick Variety Store from 1961 until her retirement in 1993. Marilyn was a member of the United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, the VFW Auxiliary and as a Hospice Volunteer. Marilyn died following a long illness at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester, IA on July 1, 2008. She lived 82 years, 1 month and 24 days. She is survived by daughters Helen Schwietert and husband Kenneth of Colesburg, IA and Mary Anders and husband Dennis of Superior, WI; 4 grandchildren: Michele & Michael Grimes and Michael and Aaron Anders. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in April 2004, a son Robert Kirkpatrick, sisters Iona Swartzendruber & Elma Erb; brothers Gerald, Orville, Delmar & Leo Ruegsegger A Celebration of Life Service will be held at the Powell Funeral Home & Cremation Service in North English with the Rev. Kathleen Moore and Pastor Ben Wilson officiating. Visitation will be held at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North English on Saturday July 5th from 9:30 until service time at 11 AM.. A lunch will follow and burial will be in the Wellman Cemetery, Wellman, IA at 2:00 PM Saturday. A memorial fund has been established for North English United Methodist Church, North English Public Library, the Good Neighbor Home and Hospice of Comfort in Manchester, IA.
