Margaret E. Hanson, age 80 of Parnell, died Tuesday, June 24, 2008 at the English Valley Care Center in North English, following a brief illness. Mass of Christian Burial: 10:00 A.M. Friday, June 27, 2008, St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Parnell with Fr. Pat Lumsden presiding. Burial will be in St. Michael’s Cemetery, Holbrook. Friends may call from 4 to 7 P.M. Thursday, June 26, 2008 at St. Joseph’s Church, Parnell where there will be a Prayer Service at 7 P.M. A memorial fund has been established. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo is in charge of arrangements.

She is survived by her children, Mary Miller (Richard) of Williamsburg, Carol Murphy (Tom) of Parnell, Paul Hanson (Annette) of Huron, S.D. and Helen Joens (Craig) of Cedar Rapids; eight grandchildren, Samantha, Zack and Melissa Miller of Williamsburg, Megan and Ryan Murphy of Parnell, Julianne Hanson of Huron, S.D. and Cael and Ben Joens of Cedar Rapids; a sister, Rita Murphy of Parnell; two brothers, Harold Weldon (Marge) of Parnell and Clem Weldon (Audrey) of North English, and a sister-in-law, Colleen Weldon of Parnell. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Joseph Hanson in 1982, two brothers, Frank and Dean Weldon and a brother-in-law Joe Murphy.

Margaret Eleanor Weldon was born January 18, 1928 in Parnell, Iowa, the daughter of John and Anna Cain Weldon. She received her education in the Parnell schools and graduated from Parnell High School in 1946. Margaret married Joseph P. Hanson on September 2, 1957 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Parnell. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, the Altar and Rosary Society, and the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, reading and crossword puzzles. She especially enjoyed the time she spent with her grandchildren.
