Williamsburg- David John Davies, was born September 3, 1923, in Hilton Township, Iowa County, Iowa, the son of Will and Gertrude Sarah (Thomas) Davies. He attended Hilton Consolidated School in Conroy. He served in Germany in the US Army from 1945-1947. He was united in marriage to Erna Ida Rose Iburg, on January 18, 1948, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Williamsburg. He was a life long farmer in the Williamsburg area, where he raised black angus cattle, other livestock and did crop farming. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, served as a church elder and on a number of church boards. He served as a school board member for St. Paul Parochial School and the Lutheran Interparish School. David believed in the importance of parochial schooling and felt strongly about his children’s and grandchildren’s educations. He enjoyed playing sheep’s head cards and celebrating special events with his family. David died on Thursday, June 19, 2008, at the Marengo Memorial Hospital in Marengo, after an extended illness at the age of 84 years, 9 months and 16 days. He is survived by: his wife Erna of Williamsburg; 5 children- John (Linda) Davies of Williamsburg, Linda (William) Lillie of Marengo, Kristine (Lyle) Groth of Ellsworth, Sarah (Warren) Meyer of Williamsburg and James (Melissa) Davies of Williamsburg; 16 grandchildren and spouses and 10 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by: his parents and a sister Virginia Grimm. Celebration of Life Service will be held 10:30 am on Monday, June 23, 2008, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Williamsburg. Rev. Carl Cloeter will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Williamsburg. Visitation will be on Sunday, from 4-7 pm at the Uhlmann-Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Williamsburg. Memorials are for the Lutheran Interparish School Tuition Fund.
