Williamsburg- Arthur Von Ahsen was born November 11, 1920, near Williamsburg, Iowa, the son of Henry and Frieda (Huedepohl) Von Ahsen. He was baptized on November 27, 1920 and confirmed on April 14, 1935 at Immanuel Lutheran Church. He attended rural schools in Iowa County. He was united in marriage to Rosetta A. Hopp on May 21, 1945, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Conroy. He was a life long resident of the Iowa County area. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, where he served as a church trustee. Arthur died on Sunday, May 18, 2008, at the English Valley Care Center, in North English, after a brief illness, at the age of 87 years, 6 months and 7 days. He is survived by a son Keith (Anita) Von Ahsen of Williamsburg; 2 daughters: Diane (Ed) Welsh of Apache Junction, AZ and Leane Von Ahsen of Williamsburg; 8 grandchildren: Tracy Moffett, Shelly Schaffer, Christina, Rachel, Holly and Aaron Von Ahsen, Stephen Welsh and Kellie Bowlby; 6 great grandchildren; 2 brothers: Henry (Laverna) Von Ahsen of Conroy and Elmer Von Ahsen of Blairstown; and a sister-in-law Esther Von Ahsen of Newhall. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Rosetta; a granddaughter Melissa Von Ahsen; 3 brothers: Erwin, Edgar and an infant; and a sister-in-law Norma Von Ahsen. Celebration of Life Service will be held 10:30 AM on Saturday, May 24, 2008, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, near Williamsburg. Pastor Richard Meyer will officiate. Burial will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday from 4-8 PM at the Uhlmann-Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Williamsburg. Memorials are for the Immanuel Lutheran Church Scholarship Fund or Immanuel Lutheran Church.
