Lavern was born on August 17, 1930, on the family farm near Ladora to Ralph and Emma Dietrich Davis. He attended rural school and graduated from Ladora High School with the Class of 1948. He served with the U.S. Army during the Koreaqn Conflict. On September 12, 1956, he was married to Viola Zuber at the Ohio Methodist Church near Ladora. The couple lived in Williamsburg and he worked for a grocery store. In 1962, the family moved to Ladora and he worked as a metal finisher for the Amana Refrigeration Company for over 30 years. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan and he enjoyed camping, fishing and go-carting. Lavern is survived by two sons, Doug (Mary) Davis of Riverside and Scott Davis of Cedar Rapids; and one brother, Marvin (Kate) Davis of Ladora. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and one brother, Calvin Davis.
