Thomas E. “Tom” McDonough, age 69, died Thursday, March 6, 2008 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, following a brief illness. Mass of Christian Burial: 2:00 P.M. Monday, March 10, 2008, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Williamsburg with Fr. Joseph Roost officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Williamsburg. Friends may call from 4 to 7 P.M. Sunday, March 9, 2008 at St. Mary’s Hall in Williamsburg where there will be a Vigil Service following visitation, and from noon until service time at the church on Monday. A memorial fund has been established. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo is in charge of arrangements.

He is survived by his wife Pat; sons, Mark of Crosby, MN, Matt and wife Julie of Miles, IA, and John and wife Carol of Fort Atkinson, WI; and grandchildren, Jack, Luke, Cole, Drew, Brock,Vince, Breana, and Allison. Also surviving is a sister Mary Ann Shilhanek and husband Bill of Ottumwa, IA and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Thomas Edward McDonough was born January 7, 1939 in Williamsburg, Iowa, the son of Thomas William and Mary Gallagher McDonough. Tom’s mother passed away when he was only 16 months old. He was raised by his grandmother, Aunt Bridgie. He graduated from Williamsburg High School in 1957 and attended St. Ambrose College, Davenport, for 2 years. Tom married Patricia Hawks on July 2, 1960 in Creston, Iowa. He was a life long resident of Williamsburg, a member of the last class graduating from the old high school. Tom owned and operated Home Oil and Tire Company and he also sold cars for Pat McGrath, Community Motors, Potts Motors, and Capper Auto Group, retiring in 2007.

Tom loved Hawkeye sports, traveling and anything related to his family, especially involving his grandchildren. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Williamsburg, and the Lions Club, served as a volunteer fireman and a Justice of the Peace and also served on the Williamsburg City Council.
