Williamsburg- Vincent R. Finnegan, was born December 4, 1926, in Keswick, Iowa, the son of John and Ellen (Lenaghan) Finnegan. He attended the Parnell School. He farmed before entering the service. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII from 1945 to 1946 in the 98th Bomb Squadron. On October 6, 1951, he was united in marriage to Rose Koenighain, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Holbrook. Vincent worked as an independent truck driver for a number of years before going to work for L. L. Pelling in 1967 until his retirement. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and a member of the Iburg Poulson VFW Post #8797, in Williamsburg. He loved his family, work,his dog Toby,John Wayne, the Green Bay Packers, his Irish heritage and the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame. Vincent died Thursday, March 6, 2008, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, after a sudden illness, at the age of 81 years, 3 months and 2 days. He is survived by his wife Rose of Williamsburg; 10 children: Diane (Mark) Portwood of Homestead, Jan Finnegan of Williamsburg, Chuck (Jean) Finnegan of Oxford, Darlene Finnegan of Williamsburg, Tammy (Chuck) Cochran of Oxford, Clint (Liz) Finnegan of Iowa City, Brian ( Melody) of Parnell, Brett (Amy) Finnegan of Oxford, Angie (George) Jensen of Williamsburg and Jodi ( Matt) Donohoe of Parnell; 27 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; a sister: Sister Marie Finnegan of Davenport; 2 sister-in-laws: Alice Finnegan of Iowa City and Ginny Dougherty; a brother-in-law: Bud South of Williamsburg; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 children: Shawn and Karen Finnegan; 3 brothers: John, Leo and Tom Finnegan; 4 sisters: Mary Kempf, Eileen South, Irene Finnegan and Margaret Swick;. his father-in-law and mother-in-law Don & Leona Koenighain. Funeral Mass will be 10:00 AM on Monday, March 10, 2008, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, in Williamsburg. Presider will be Father Joseph Roost. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, in Parnell, with Military Rites by the Iburg Poulson VFW Post #8797. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2-7 PM with a Rosary at 7 PM at the Uhlmann-Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Williamsburg. A general memorial fund has been established.
