Verlyn J. "Bud" Davis, 72, of 1601 Third St. SW, Cedar Rapids, died Friday, Feb. 15, 2008, at St. Luke's Hospital following a long illness. Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, by the Rev. Glenn Hunt. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m., Monday at the funeral home.

Survivors include his daughter, Danette McFadden of Allen, Texas; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Sylvia (Charles) Wilkerson of North English and Sherry (Jim) Fangmann of Minnetonka, Minn.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Douglas Davis; and brother, JoWayne Davis.

Verlyn was born July 5, 1935, in Iowa County, the son of Verlyn and Iva Thomas Davis. He served in the U.S. Air Force for 17 years. Verlyn was an engineer at Rockwell Collins.

Verlyn was a fan of the Dallas Cowboys and the Cubs. His joys were fishing, his computer and being a jokester, with his greatest joy being his family
