-Dorothy M. Gardner was born September 14, 1920 near Williamsburg, Iowa, the daughter of Jack and May( Schafbuch) Von Lienen. She attended rural Iowa County school. Dorothy was united in marriage to Burton Gardner, Jr. on November 28, 1940 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Williamsburg. Together the couple lived and farmed a farm near North English for many years. After Burtons death in 1974, Dorothy went to work for Evans Photography in North English until her retirement. Dorothy moved to Williamsburg in the early 1990's. In 2006 she returned to North English to live in the English Valley Assisted Living Center. She was a member or St. Mary’s Catholic Church and was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society. Dorothy enjoyed crocheting, playing cards, visiting with family and friends and going on outings with Donna and Don. Dorothy died Saturday, November 17, 2007 at the Marengo Memorial Hospital in Marengo after congestive heart failure at the age of 87 years. Dorothy is survived by her daughter: Donna (Don) Kirkpatrick of Williamsburg; two brothers: Leo “Pete” Von Lienen of Marengo and George (Dorothy) Von Lienen of Macon, Missouri; a sister-in-law: Florence Gardner of Williamsburg and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband in 1974 and two brothers: Jay and Dean Von Lienen. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 am Tuesday, November 20, 2007 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Williamsburg. Fr. Joseph Roost will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the Uhlmann-Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Williamsburg. There will be a prayer service at 7:00pm at the funeral home.
