Ruth E. Burgy, age 86, of Marengo, passed away Friday November 9, 2007 at Rose Haven Nursing Home in Marengo following an extended illness. Memorial Services: Monday November 12, 10:00 A.M. First Presbyterian Church, Marengo with Rev. Gerald Rife officiating. Inurnment will be at Pilot Grove Cemetery, Williamsburg. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 P.M. Sunday, November 11, 2007 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. Memorials may be contributed to the First Presbyterian Church in Marengo or Camp Courageous.

Ruth is survived by two daughter, Sue Butschi and husband Robert of Cedar Rapids and Ruth-Ann Muszynski and husband Richard of Robins; five grandchildren, Brian Butschi and fiancée Debbie Jacobsmeier, Robert Butschi and wife Stephanie, Bradley Butschi and wife Dana, Chad Muszynski and wife Melissa and Lisa Muszynski Huston and husband Dave; eleven great-grandchildren, Steven, Justin, Nicole, Tommy, Andrew, Catherine, and Zoey Butschi, Holly and Bailey Huston and Clayton and Dylan Muszynski. Ruth is also survived by a brother, George Stahl and wife Rita of Williamsburg. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey and her parents.

Ruth Eileen Stahl was born February 11, 1921 in Pilot Township, Iowa County, Iowa the daughter of Elmer George and Eleanor June Richards Stahl. She graduated from Williamsburg High School and then Paris Beauty Academy in Cedar Rapids. She married Harvey Henry Burgy on October 22, 1940. The couple lived on the family farm southeast of South Amana. She worked for eight years as an office assistant with Farm Bureau Insurance in Williamsburg, and then was employed as a deputy sheriff with the Iowa County Sheriff’s Office, retiring after 16 years.

Ruth was a 60 year member of First Presbyterian Church in Marengo, and a past matron and 50 year member of the Order of Eastern Star. She served on the Iowa County Board of Education, the Iowa County 4-H board, and was a member of the Iowa County Historical Society. Her activities included golfing at the Marengo Golf Club, playing bridge, gardening, watching the Chicago Cubs, and Hawkeye sports, but her greatest joy was her family.

Ruth’s family would like to thank Essence of Life Hospice for their excellent care and the “angels” of Rose Haven Nursing Home for their exceptional skills and compassion.
