Steve is survived by aunts, Hilda Driscoll and Mary Jo Wade; numerous cousins, including Honore (Mike) Johnston, Davenport; as well as many dear and special friends who provided him with love and companionship.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Grace L. Driscoll on Aug. 18, 1995; and his father, Vernard J. Driscoll on Nov. 27, 1998. May they rest in peace.

Stephen Vernard Driscoll was born Sept. 15, 1929, in Williamsburg, Iowa, a son of Vernard Joseph and Grace Loretta (Moynihan) Driscoll. Steve attended schools in the state of Iowa, and when his family moved to Davenport he attended St. Alphonsus Catholic Elementary School. Due to illness at birth he needed special arrangements for his education. He was the first in the state of Iowa to receive an electronic phone hookup so he could participate with his classmates at school while studying from his home. He attended St. Ambrose Academy and graduated from St. Ambrose College in 1954, with a degree in history and a minor in English. He then went on to attend Creighton College School of Law. His health prevented him from attaining his law degree.

He was the first in the country to have a procedure and operation on his muscles where they moved muscles from one area of his body to his lower body to keep mobility in his legs. The operation was performed at the Mayo Clinic with a large team of doctors.

He had worked at the Rock Island Arsenal, the Painters Union, for nearly 10 years. From 1974 to 1991, he was a phone operator and answered hundreds of calls a day for the parts department at Lindquist Ford. Steve also had a keen interest in reflexology, and had received a reflexology degree.

Steve's life really opened up with the addition of a computer and the Internet. He was able to communicate more regularly with friends and enjoyed the opportunities to research things of interest. He was a western movie buff, and kept current watching television and world news. He was always up for the challenge when someone would ask to play a game of checkers, and he was usually the winner! He followed sports and was a fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes, the Chicago Cubs and the Bears. His favorite restaurant was Ross' in Bettendorf, where he was a regular.

Memorials can be made to St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, Trinity Visiting Nurses Home Care and Associates or Trinity Pathway Hospice.
