Robert W. Gieskieng, 84, of Cedar Rapids, died Sept. 20, 2007, at University Hospitals in Iowa City following a sudden illness. Funeral services: 3 p.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Friends may call from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Entombment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Arlene; daughters, Sandra Kimball and husband Jim of Cedar Rapids, Terri Tharp and husband Perry of Palo, and Jackie Fossum of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Kim Roudabush and husband Mike of Marion, Danielle Rouw and husband Todd of Omaha, Neb., Nicole Shanstrom of Marion, Alicia Richards of Cedar Rapids, Matthew Fossum and wife Skye of St. Paul, Minn., Andrew Fossum of Redondo Beach, Calif., and Michael Fossum of Cedar Rapids. Also surviving are his 11 beloved great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Nola; and grandson, Bret Weaver.

Robert Warren Gieskieng was born Aug. 10, 1923, in Ladora, Iowa, the beloved son of Edward H. and Nola Z. (Robinson) Gieskieng. He was united in marriage to Arlene Clark on Jan. 30, 1947, in Cedar Rapids. He was employed by Wilson Packing Co. as a general foreman from 1943 to 1986. He was a member of American Legion Hanford Post 5. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and above all his family.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to many and will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Robert's honor be made to the American Heart Association.
