Gayle Rhinehart, age 86, passed away on August 22, 2007, at the Marengo Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 25, at the Smith Funeral Home in Victor. Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, at the Smith Funeral Home and where the family will be present from 5:00 to 7:00 Friday evening. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the family or the Marengo Memorial Hospital. Gayle was born in Hartwick, Iowa, on May 12, 1921, to Delbert and Esther (Korns) Benton. She resided in Hartwick for 16 years before moving to Victor where she graduated from Victor High School in 1938. On March 5, 1940, Gayle and David Rhinehart were married. This union was blessed with 11 children, Steven, Russell, Robert, Janet, Jack, Craig, Gary, Judy, Joyce, JoAnn, and Kathy. Gayle will be missed dearly by her husband of 67 years, David, her 11 children, 23 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, 6 daughters-in-law, 2 sons-in-law, her brother, Bob (Joan), and her nephew, Mark. She was preceded in death by her parents and a son-in-law, Ed Moreland. Gayle will be remembered as a woman who welcomed everyone who came in her door, and always had an extra place at her table for anyone who stopped in. Her love of shopping kept her busy at Christmas so every single person at the Rhinehart Christmas had a gift under the tree. Her family will miss her great cooking and baking, especially her chicken and noodles that no one seems to duplicate. Gayle will miss bird-watching, eating out, and enjoying all of Dad’s beautiful flowers.
