Darlene L. Hawkins , age 82 of Marengo, died Thursday, May 31, 2007 at Ridgeview Assisted Living Center in Cedar Rapids following an extended illness. Funeral Services: 2 P.M. Sunday, June 3, 2007, St. John’s Lutheran Church, Homestead with Rev. Wayne Woolery officiating. Burial will be in the Ladora Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 7 P.M. Saturday, June 2, 2007 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. A memorial fund has been established.

She is survived by two sons, Harlin E. Hawkins and wife Sandi of Cedar Rapids, and Lauren Hawkins and wife Shelly of Arden Hills, MN; two daughters, Harlene Stewart and husband Bill of Cedar Rapids, and Janean Stigers Albuquerque, NM; thirteen grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. In addition, she is survived by three sisters-in-law, Betty Klein of Marengo, Anna Klein of Marion and Betty Long of Cedar Rapids. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Harlin F. Hawkins on October 27, 1985, and three brothers, Lester, Max and Russell Klein.

Darlene Lucille Klein was born April 9, 1925 in Iowa County, Iowa, the daughter of Roy and Lucille Weldon Klein. She received her education in the Marengo schools and graduated from Marengo High School in 1943. She married Harlin Floyd Hawkins on December 29, 1943 at the Methodist parsonage in Ladora. She was a homemaker and mother and also assisted her husband on the farm. Darlene was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and St. John’s Lutheran Church, Homestead. She enjoyed playing bingo, collecting angels, and especially enjoyed spending time with her family.
