Henrietta Carney, age 87 of Parnell, passed away Monday evening, May 7, 2007 at the English Valley Care Center, North English, surrounded by her family. Mass of Christian Burial: 10:00 A.M. Saturday, May 12, 2007, St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Parnell with Father Pat Lumsden officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Parnell. Friends may call from 4 to 8 P.M. Friday, May 11, 2007 at the church where a Prayer Service will be held at 7:30 P.M. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Iowa City Hospice, the Parnell First Responders, and St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Parnell.

Survivors include a daughter Margie Carney (Duane Wiebold); a son-in-law, Jim Kelly; a grandson, Jim Carney (Kim); and great-grandchildren, Jonathon “JJ” Carney and Bethany Carney, all of Parnell. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry J. (1918) and Katharina Schwarting Wille (1966); her husband James Carney (1973), a daughter, Kathleen Kelly (1966), three sisters, Esther Wickmann (1982), Ida Walter (1983) and Alma Walter (1979); and five brothers, Hank (1970), Delmar (1984), Ferd (1972), Earl (1973) and Harold (1979).

Henrietta Ida Wille was born June 1, 1919, in Williamsburg, Iowa, the youngest of nine children, born to Henry J. and Katharina “Katie” Schwarting Wille. She attended Immanuel Lutheran School and married James V. Carney on March 1, 1938 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Parnell. The couple were blessed with two daughters, Kathleen and Marguerite. The couple opened the Shamrock Café in Parnell in 1950 and operated it for 23 years. Following Jim’s death Henrietta sold the café and was employed by Yearian Nursing Home in Williamsburg for several years. She then worked as a maid at Best Western Motel until retirement. She resided in Parnell from 1946 until November, 2005 when she moved to English Valley Care Center due to failing health.

Henrietta was always known for her great expertise in the kitchen, especially baking cinnamon rolls and pies. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend of many and will greatly be missed by those who knew and loved her.
