Emil “Red” Herman, 86, of Swisher, died Friday, May 4, 2007, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids. Services: 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 7, 2007, Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. The family will greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, May 6, 2007, at the funeral home. Burial: Anderson Cemetery, Swisher, with military honors.

Survivors include his wife, Vera; two daughters, Sharon Heneghan and fiance (Russ Harvey) and Patty Herman; two grandchildren, Aime and Corey Heneghan; a special daughter, Shelley Marston; and a sister, Lillian Caldwell.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, John Herman; and many brothers and sisters.

Red was born April 24, 1921, the son of Anton and Mary Herman, in Amana, Iowa. He served with the United States Army during World War II. In 1949, Red was united in marriage to Vera Cline. He loved going to small towns participating in their parades with his horse, Mindy. Red enjoyed coon hunting, gardening and mushroom hunting. He was a member of the American Legion Post 671, Swisher.
