Willard Carl Hopp, age 81 of Cedar Rapids, formerly of the Homestead and South Amana area, died Sunday, April 22, 2007 at Willow Gardens Care Center, Marion, following an extended illness. Funeral Services: 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, April 25, 2007, Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo with Rev. Wayne Woolery officiating. Burial will be in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery, rural Homestead with military honors. Friends may call after 10:00 A.M. Wednesday until service time at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established.

He is survived by his son, Larry Hopp and wife Yvonne of Cedar Rapids, his daughter, Linda Clark and husband Lawson “Skip” of Mount Vernon; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and a brother Melvin Hopp and wife Joan of Homestead. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Gilbert.

Willard Carl Hopp was born May 19, 1925 in South Amana, Iowa, the son of Carl W. and Bertha R. Newkirk Hopp. He received his elementary education in the Lutheran parochial schools and he attended Marengo High School. Willard served in the U.S. Army for two years with the 762 nd military police battalion. Following his discharge from the army he owned and operated the Three Deuces Café and Hopp’s Lounge in Cedar Rapids for many years. His retirement years were spent developing properties and building homes.

Willard had a kidding nature. He loved talking to and being around people. He will be missed by his family and friends.
