Lawrence Francis Plotz, age 90, died Wednesday, November 22, 2006 at Rose Haven Nursing Home in Marengo. Mass of Christian Burial: 10:00 A.M. Saturday, November 25, 2006 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Marengo with Fr. Joseph Roost officiating. Burial will be in St. Michael’s Cemetery, rural Norway with military honors. Friends may call from 3 to 6 P.M. Friday, November 24, 2006 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo where there will be a Scripture Service at 6 P.M. A memorial fund has been established.

He is survived by his wife, Helen; a son, Larry Plotz and wife Sherry of Marion; three daughters, Karen Wesack and husband Steve of Middle Amana, Carol Bradfield of Denver, IA, and Marian Consumano and husband Carl of Manassas, VA; a stepson, John Connor and wife Mary of Manchester; a stepdaughter, Joanne Freshour of Cedar Rapids; nine grandchildren, and 6 step-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Martin Plotz and wife Mildred of Amana, and Walter Plotz and wife Dolores of Swisher; four sisters, Irene LaGrange of Amana; Margaret Frimml of Tama; Agnes Nie of Jesup; and Sister Charmaine Plotz of Dubuque. He was preceded in death by his first wife Violet in 1974, his parents, a sister Lucille Plotz, a brother, Edward and a grandson, Chad Wesack.

Lawrence Francis Plotz was born July 13, 1916 in rural Amana, Iowa County, Iowa, the son of Frank and Anna Huebl Plotz. He received his education in the Norway parochial school. He owned and operated a saw mill and later worked for the Amana Society. Lawrence served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He married Violet Rotella on November 25, 1943 at Bronx, NY. She died in 1974. He married Helen Bishop Connor on August 30, 1974 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Norway. He has resided in Marengo since 1974.

Lawrence was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, serving as an usher for over 30 years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Marengo American Legion Post #76. He enjoyed playing cards and fishing.
