Dorothy “Dottee” E. Newkirk, age 74 of Huntley, IL and formerly of Marengo, died peacefully on September 27, 2006 with her family by her side. Graveside Memorial Service: 11:00 A.M. Saturday, November 11, 2006 at the Marengo Cemetery with Rev. Gerald Rife officiating. Lunch and fellowship will follow at the First Presbyterian Church, Marengo. Memorials may be contributed to the Living Waters Lutheran Church, 1808 Miller Road, Crystal Lake, IL. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo is in charge of local arrangements.

She is survived by her husband, Harlan, a daughter, Lisa Newkirk Reimler and husband John of Holmen, WI; a son, Jeffrey A. Newkirk and wife Dian of Cary, IL; and five grandchildren, Benjamin and Darcy Reimler and Payton, Emma and Mary Newkirk. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Jean Davenport.

Dorothy E. Ellis was born on February 29, 1932 in Marengo, the daughter of Glenn A. and Fanny M. (McQuitty) Ellis. She graduated from Grinnell College in 1954 with a B.A. in Speech Therapy and English. She married high school sweetheart Harlan Newkirk on July 30, 1955 at the First Presbyterian Church in Marengo. She taught speech therapy for four years before becoming a mother to Lisa and Jeffrey. Dottee was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Lansing, IL and later at the Living Waters Lutheran Church of Crystal Lake, IL. She was also an active member of her local PEO chapter.

Dottee was loved and admired by all who knew her and she will be greatly missed. She enjoyed literature, music, card playing, travel, crossword puzzles, theatre, but most importantly her family. Love and laughter were always abundant in her presence.
