Donald was born on December 31, 1922, at his family home near Chelsea, Iowa to Albert and Alma Martin Peska. Following the death of his mother he was raised by his grandmother in Hartwick. He attended rural school and the Hartwick Public School. On October 31, 1944, he was married to Virginia Fisher in Marengo, Iowa. The couple farmed near Hartwick and he worked for many years as a carpenter for Hunzelman Construction Company of Ladora and for the Bob Goodman Construction Company of Ladora. Later, he worked at the Donaldson Company in Grinnell and as a custodian for Victor Manufacturing Company. The couple has lived in Grinnell for the past five years. He was a member of the Victor Volunteer Fire Department. Donald enjoyed fishing, mushroom hunting, motorcycling, family picnics and playing his accordion and guitar. During his senior years he enjoyed watching soap operas, game shows, professional wrestling and animal shows on television. Survivors include his wife, Virginia Peska of Grinnell; one daughter, Pam (Wayne) Landuyt of Grinnell; one granddaughter, Ginger (Richard) Phipps of Grinnell; four grandchildren, Chelsea Jo McCurry, Brooklyn Kay Housley, Sierra Nicole Phipps and Meagan Marie Phipps; and three brothers, Dwaine Peska of Ladora, Delbert Peska and Dale Peska, both of Marengo. He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, Donald Landuyt; and one brother, David Peska.
