Luella Elizabeth LeFever was born May 7, 1922 in Iowa County near Parnell, Iowa the daughter of Henry and Carrie (Long) Wade. She attended the Green Valley School. On January 18, 1946 she was united in marriage to Joe Charles LeFever in Wapello. Luella lived in the Wellman community all of her life before moving to Kalona in 2000. She worked at Parkview Manor in Wellman for 14 years as a Nurses’s Aid before retiring in 1982. She was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. Luella died on Tuesday, August 1, 2006 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City following a brief illness at the age of 84 years. Luella is survived by a son - Fred LeFever and wife Peg of Washington; a daughter - Becky York and husband Mike of Washington; 6 grandchildren - Jim LeFever and wife Dawn; Jody Knouse and husband Dwaine; Mike York and wife Ann; Abby York; Daniel York; Matthew York; 4 great grandchildren - Bailey Grace Knouse; Cody James LeFever; Tara Gould; Keira Gould; and a brother - Clarence Wade of Cedar Rapids. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in July of 1964; 3 sisters - Opal Karr, Orpha Adams, Dorothy Kelly; and a brother - Henry Wade.
A memorial fund has been establsihed for Saint Jude and Washington County Ambulance.
