Bernard (Barney) Hubert Morgan was born on December 30, 1917, in Talmage, Saskatchewan, Canada, a son of William and Frances Holzhauser Morgan. When he was four years old, he moved with his family to Hedrick, IA. He grew up in that area and graduated from Hedrick High School. On August 10, 1937, he was united in marriage to Hildred Marguerite Eastburn in Lancaster, MO. Barney served as an Army Staff Sergeant in the post World War II occupation of Korea. The couple moved to North English in 1948, where Barney owned and operated Morgan’s U-Save Grocery. He retired in 1965 and then kept himself busy working as a handyman and painter. Hildred preceded him in death on June 10, 1984. His Spiritual Walk was the most important thing in his life. Barney died suddenly at his home on Sunday, June11, 2006. Barney lived 88 years, 5 months and 12 days. He is survived by a son Brent Morgan (Luanne) of Los Angeles, CA; a daughter Brenda Hollingsworth (Gary) of Coralville, IA; 3 grandchildren: Mark Hollingsworth, Mandy Hollingsworth, Matthew Hollingsworth, and Laura Morgan; and two great grandchildren: Grace and Jack Hollingsworth. Barney was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brothers Thoral and Richard Morgan; and sisters Marguerite Massie and Helen Beckham. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at the Powell Funeral Home in North English, IA at 10:00 AM on Saturday, June 17, 2006, with Pastor Chester Render officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 4 PM to 8 PM. Burial will be in the Garrett Cemetery, near Delta, IA.
