Doris K. Sonntag, age 85, of Hills, MN; formerly of Conroy, IA died Thursday, May 25, 2006, at the Sioux Valley Luverne Hospital in Luverne, MN. Doris Katherine Julia Sonntag was born November 17, 1920 in Saginaw County, Michigan. She grew up on the family farm north east of Frankenmuth. She attended St. Lorenz Lutheran School in Frankenmuth. After her school years, she worked as a housekeeper for various families in the Saginaw area. On August 27, 1943 Doris was united in marriage with Rev. Martin H. Sonntag of Windsor, Ontario, Canada, at her parents homestead. Since her husband was a minister, they lived in various communities, including: Shelby, MI; Linkville, MI; Spring Fountain, IA; and Conroy, IA. On February 11, 1974 Doris’ husband died suddenly. They had been married for 31 years. She continued to live in the Conroy area until moving to the Tuff Memorial Home in Hills in September of 1999. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Conroy, where she served as organist for a number of years. She was proud of her family and looked forward to their visits, their family news and gatherings. She also enjoyed her flower gardens, crocheting, sewing, cooking, reading and music. She remained involved in the resident activities at the Tuff Home until her death. Doris is survived by her three sons: Thomas (Beverly) Sonntag of Sidney, NE; Jim (Judy) Sonntag of Luverne, MN; and John (Annette) Sonntag of Columbus, NE; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one sister; three sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Rev. Martin; three sisters; and two brothers.
