Harrison (Jack) Dixon was born September 8, 1887, son of Cass and Margaret Blair Dixon, on a farm east of North English, Iowa, and died Thursday, September 11, 1958 at the age of 71 years and 3 days at his home in North English. A heart attack was given as the cause of death.

He attended rural school at Hinkletown and later worked on a farm.

He was united in marriage in 1911 with Miss Gail Thomas. A son, Donald of North English, and a daughter, Mrs. Iva Malcom of Walnut Grove, California, were born of this union. There are three grandchildren, Donald Dixon, Roger and Richard Malcom.

Preceding him in death were his parents, three brothers, Jess, Ernie and Frank. Left to mourn his loss beside his wife, son, and daughter, are a brother, Charles, two sisters, Mrs. Dale (Effie) Lown and Mrs. Mayme McArtor, all of North English.

In 1912, the Dixons took over the management of the North English telephone office, in which business they gave the public twenty-one years of faithful service. Jack also operated the Ford garage here in 1916, and a few years later operated the grocery store on the east side of Main Street, which he later sold to the Sampsons.

Sports were a favorite love of his and for several years he was manager of the town baseball team. Included among his friends were major leaguers Mace Brown, a local boy, and Bill Zuber.

There was hardly a child or adult but who passed the time of day with Jack when they met on the street. His conversation was always tinged with a warm sly sense of humor which always allowed the joke to creep in. As one little girl said when she heard of his death, “Main Street will never be the same without Jack.”

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock in the Mahannah Chapel, conducted by the Rev. James Lloyd, pastor of the Christian Church. Mrs. Rose King played organ music, and also accompanied Mrs. Dean Thomas, soloist. Burial was made in the North English cemetery.

Casket bearers were: Berl Long, Ed McCune, Willard Thurman, Patrick Driscoll, Don Smith and Wade Johnston.
