Died at the home of her daughter in Grinnell, Monday, March 23, Mrs. Mary Anna Ratcliff, aged 67 years, 1 months and 23 days. Mary Anna Griffin was born in Brownstown, Indiana, Feb. 1, 1841. When ten years old she came to Iawa, and made her home in this state until her death as above noted. On Oct. 4, 1856, she was married to John Mortimer Ratcliffe, and to this union was born ten children, four of whom, with the husband, preceded her in death, the husband, a prominent citizen of Marengo, dying April 25, 1902. The remaining six children have grown to manhood and womanhood, and mourn the loss of the best and most loving of mothers. Mrs. Ratcliffe united with the M.E. church in 1903, and has been a consistent and faithful member of that denomination ever since. She was a lady beloved for her kind disposition and her true neighbors and charitable impulses. The funeral occurred from the M.E. church, Wednesday, March 25, at two o’clock p.m. Services were conducted by Rev. Hainley of Grinnell and Rev. Fry of this city. The remains were laid to rest beside her husband in the I.O.O.F. cemetery. (Marengo Democrat, April 2, 1908)
