Jack Blaine Family-"The Orphan Train"
The Blaines were our (McGivens) neighbors. The Will Blaines lived a quarter of a mile from us and his brother, Jim, about a half mile further on. Neither family had any children. One day the news came that an orphanage from New York was sending a "carload of orphans" to the depot and anyone wanting a child was invited to come and pick one out. Both Blaine families went, and Will and his wife soon saw a little black-eyed eight year old girl they wanted. When they asked her if she would like to go live with them and be their little girl, she started to cry and said she didn't want to leave her little brother. Mr Will, then got his brother, Jim to adopt her brother and all were happy. Later, these children discovered their brother and sisters.
