According to the book, "Our Heritage, A History of Ida County" c. 1977, Midwest Industries, Inc., W. J. Reed and Company started the first bank in Holstein, Ida County, Iowa. Note: W.J. vs. J.W. might be typo? The book also states that Ida Grove was incorporated April 26, 1878 and it's first recorder was J.W. Reed. Also, John T. Hallam and J.W. Reed had the first grain elevator.
