So....Wilhelm and Catherine Schiernbeck buried in Schleswig are Wulf's parents?
And...my Wilhelm Schiernbeck was living as an "other" in Wulf's parent's home in the 1880 Census for Otter Creek Township, Crawford County, Iowa?
I found a brief entry in the Germans to America series which stated:
Cath. Schiernbeck, age 42, came left Hamburg, Germany and arrived in New York, USA on April 5, 1871. Also listed was Wm. Schiernbeck, age 15. I don't believe it mentioned their relationship, but they were listed together on the same boat. They were the only Schiernbecks on board.Problems:
1. My Wilhelm's obit states he immigrated in 1880 (though he was in the census that year).2. Wilhelm & Catherine Schiernbeck were married in Davenport, Iowa. I had received a copy of their marriage record. I'll have to dig around for it. Don't recall the year. Anyway the Cath. Schiernbeck immigrating in 1871 couldn't be the Catherine Schiernbeck buried in Schleswig then.
3. Maybe the 1871 Schiernbecks aren't even any relation, but I can't rule them out yet.
My head is spinning. So many coincidences and commonalities, and it's such a rare name. You'd think with all this info I'd be able to put two and two together. How frustrating!
