Schiernbeck families of Ida & Crawford Counties

SCHIERNBECK, JOHNS, MESS, WILKINSON

Looking for the ancestry of Wulf Schiernbeck Sr. born about 1850 and passed away in Ida Grove.

Trying to solve some family mysteries. My GG grandfather is Wilhelm H. Schiernbeck, born 1854 in Husum, Germany to Christian & Anna (Johns) Schiernbeck (parent's names found in Wilhelm's death record. I have no other info on them).

Wilhelm was living in Otter Creek Township, Crawford County, Iowa in 1880 as a servant in the household of Wilhelm (born abt. 1835) and Catherine Schiernbeck. Elder Wilhelm and Catherine are buried in Morgan Cemetery by Schleswig, Iowa just steps away from my Wilhelm's first wife (my GG grandmother). Wilhelm married again and passed away in Davenport, Iowa in 1915. His obit states he was to be buried in Morgan Cemetery, but I can find no record or stone for him. His second wife is buried in Davenport, and he is not there with her either.

I believe that all the Schiernbeck families in the Otter Creek Township and Ida Grove area to be related somehow. It is a rare name, and there are so many in the same area, in the same time, under what seem to be similar circumstances. I've found a A? Schiernbeck 15 year old female living as a servant in the household of Johannes & Emma Schiernbeck in Otter Creek Township, Crawford County in the 1900 Census. Johannes is a member of the Wulf or Ida Grove Schiernbeck family. This is another Schiernbeck servant living in another Schiernbeck family household in Otter Creek Township. They must be family. How though?

How is my Wilhelm connected to Wulf? How is my Wilhelm connected to the Wilhelm he lived with? How is Elder Wilhelm connected to Wulf? How does the b. 1885 servant Schiernbeck girl fit into the family picture?

And just this week I received this message:
Hi Tena
I spotted your name on the Crawford County, Iowa surname listing for Schiernbeck. My mother's grandmother was anna Christina Schiernbeck born either November 10, 1850 or October 11th, 1850 in Schleswig-Holstein Germany according to family stories. She married Henry Fredrich Mess in Germany. They secretly left Germany on May 8, 1885 or August 5, 1885. Stories say they joined other Schiernbecks in the United States. Seems they settled into a Swedish community learning that language before their own. Family became US citizens in 1890. Their oldest daughter, Martha Sophia Mess was married December 1, 1896 in Ida Grove, Iowa to Robert Henry Wilkinson.
Do any of the above names seem familiar to you?
Appreciate any information you may have. Thank you. Gloria (in Canada).

Yet another piece of puzzle. One can even speculate that the Swedish speaking community in the letter to be Kiron or Otter Creek Township! This woman's Anna Schiernbeck is also the same age as Wilhelm and Wulf!

Can anybody help??? I hope to hear from someone.
