I do not believe that Enos F. Babcock married Clara Hales mother. Enos F. Babcock married Laura Lawrence and she is the mother of their children.
They are found in the 1870 census Enos (37), Laura (39), Ira J (6), Ellis (3) (I believe this is Alice) in 1880 we find Enos (46), Ira J (16), Alice (12) and Adelbert (8). Laura has passed away. Laura Babcock, wife of Enos F. Babcock, died Aug. 31, 1879, aged 49 years, 6 mo., 9 days. (mother of Adelbert Delos) (nee Lawrence) She is buried in Ida County Cemetery. Enos then marries Miss Eliza M. Webster July 16, 1880 and they celebrate their anniversary July 27, 1905 with a notice in the Ida County newspaper. Enos dies December 23, 1907.
Eliza M Babcock dies in 1948 she is also buried in Ida County Cemetery.
I believe there was simply an error made in the obituary or at least some other explanation.

July 16,1880 Era Ida County, Iowa
Married at the M.E. parsonage in Ida Grove on Wednesday July 14,1880, Mr. Enos F. Babcock and Miss Eliza M. Webster, both of Ida County, Rev. C.B. Winter officiating. The groom is one of Ida County’s most prosperous farmers. We have not a personal acquaintance with the bride, but she must needs possessed of many amiable and womanly qualities to have been selected by E.F. Babcock as a life companion.
