Death Comes To C. W. Trousdale: Aged Wife So Seriously Ill That She Cannot be Told of His Demise.
After five weeks illness, Charles W. Trousdale, of The Baxter Hotel, died at 5:45 p.m. Tuesday, March 25 in the local hospital. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. today, March 27 in the Moore mortuary parlors, Rev George W. Dunn of the Methodist church officiating. The burial will be in Ida Grove cemetery.
Charles Ward Trousdale was born March 5, 1853 in Fayette, Wisconsin, and passed his seventy-seventh birthday twenty days ago. He was the son of Richard and Lucinda Buckmaster Trousdale. His early life was spent on the farm in the vicinity of Fayette, where he was married October 11, 1871 to Mary Louise Cox. In 1880, the family moved by prairie schooner from Wisconsin to DeSmet, South Dakota, where Mr. Trousdale was in the transfer business until 1893. They then moved to Estherville, Iowa, where he reentered the transfer business and later was representative for the U.S. Express Company. About 15 years ago he and his wife went to Cedar Rapids to live and there they celebrated their golden wedding, surrounded by their children, in 1921. Last September, the aged couple came to Ida Grove to live and on the eleventh of October, the fifty-eighth wedding anniversary was celebrated by the children and grandchildren.
Mr. Trousdale is survived by four sons: Merle M. and Earle E. of Cedar Rapids, Winn W. of Ida Grove, Boyd B. of Cedar Rapids. There are six grandchildren. One sister is living, Mrs. J. D. Baker, of Torrance, California. Mr. Trousdale’s wife was stricken last Sunday and is in a semi-conscious condition. The relatives have not told her of the death of her husband, fearing the shock might prove fatal.
Mr. Trousdale was a man of find physical powers and sickness was unknown to him until his final illness. He was a man of jolly, friendly disposition and made many friends wherever he went. His was brought up in the Methodist faith and for many years attended that church and took pleasure singing in the choir.
