Mrs. Henderson Expires at 89; Came to Ida County 50 Years Ago, and Lived in Ida Grove 40 years.
Ripe in years, deeply loved and honored by her large family of circle and a throng of friends, Mrs. Mary Henderson passed from earthly life Monday afternoon, February tenth, at 3:15 o’clock at her home in Ida Grove.
Mrs. Henderson has been in gradually failing health for many months, but her decline became more pronounced the last two months, most of which she was bedfast. The end came peacefully, the aged woman passing into eternity as she slept. The last morning of her life, she spoke to those about her, assuring them that she felt no pain.
Mary Stout was born January 29, 1841 in Dunrossness parish, Scotland and recently attained her eighty-ninth birthday. She was married in Scotland to Robert Henderson October 20, 1862. They came to America in 1871, settling at Chicago, where they passed through the great fire the following fall. They came to Ida county in 1880 and for nine years they lived on a farm in Battle township, after which they came to Ida Grove. They were faithful attendants at the Presbyterian church as long as their health permitted it.
Mr. and Mrs. Henderson celebrated their golden wedding anniversary October 20, 1923, surrounded by their children and other descendents. Mr. Henderson was called by death January 17, 1928, servering and ideal companionship of nearly 55 years.
Mrs. Henderson is survived by five children: Henry, Andrew and Mrs. Maggie Fair of Battle township, Mrs. Agnes Bell of Des Moines, Robert Henderson Jr., in McAllen, Texas. Four other children died in infancy. There are nineteen grandchildren and twenty-six great grandchildren.
The funeral services will be held at the First Presbyterian church, Ida Grove, Thursday at 2 p.m. in charge of Rev. C. A. Van Greithuyan. Mrs. Henderson will be laid in Mt. Hope cemetery, Battle Creekk, beside her husband.
