Shaina Lynn Schmidt, age 37, of Galesburg, Illinois (formerly of Des Moines and Battle Creek, Iowa) passed away on Tuesday, January 7, 2020, at her residence of Galesburg, Illinois. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, January 13, 2020, at the First Presbyterian Church of Battle Creek, Iowa. Rev. Kevin J. Freese will officiate. Committal will follow in the Mount Hope Cemetery of Battle Creek, Iowa. A Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Sunday, January 12, 2020, at the First Presbyterian Church of Battle Creek, Iowa. The Christensen-Van Houten Funeral Home of Battle Creek, Iowa is in charge of the funeral arrangements. Shaina Lynn Schmidt, the firecracker daughter of Deron and Tracey (McBride) Schmidt, was born July 4, 1982, in Ida Grove, Iowa. She grew up on the farm outside of Battle Creek, Iowa and received her education at Battle Creek-Ida Grove High School graduating with the class of 2000. After high school she attended Iowa State University. While living in Ames, Iowa, Shaina was employed as the assistant manager of Hy-Vee. From there she moved to Des Moines, Iowa and began working at Mediacom. On January 2, 2014, Shaina and Joey Hayes were blessed with a son, Boston. In February of 2019, the family moved to Galesburg, Illinois where Shaina enjoyed being a stay at home mom. Shaina was an avid Iowa State Cyclones and Minnesota Vikings fan. She loved coming home and spending time on the farm with her family and their trips to Big Pine Lake in Minnesota. Shaina also loved her trips with Joey and Boston to their “Secret Park” known as Adventureland. Shaina will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her. Left to cherish her memory include her soulmate Joey Hayes of Galesburg, IL and their son Boston; her parents Deron and Tracey Schmidt of Battle Creek, IA; brother Dylan (Tiffany) Schmidt of Battle Creek, IA and their children Cade, Taytum and Tucker; sister Shelby Schmidt (Brad Siebersma) of Danbury, IA and her son Bronx; maternal grandparents Jim and Yvonne McBride of Battle Creek, IA; paternal grandparents Ed and Judy Schmidt of Battle Creek, IA; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family and friends.
